A Message from Father Jim
Each month in our parish newsletter, Father Jim shares a message with our community. Often he uses his message to deepen our understanding of themes and traditions within church seasons and practices, but he also speaks to events happening in our community, nation, and world as they relate to the teachings and ministry of Jesus Christ. His message for February 2026 speaks to recent events in Minneapolis, MN and provides a Christian response.
A Place in Gettysburg History
Like many churches in historic Gettysburg, Prince of Peace has a connection to the Civil War. The cornerstone for the church, at the intersection of High and Baltimore Streets, was laid on July 2, 1888 during the 25th anniversary reunion of Battle of Gettysburg veterans. The church was built as a memorial to soldiers of the Civil War and as a symbol of peace and reconciliation.
On special occasions throughout the year, we offer tours of the church, which include an opportunity to explore our bell tower where numerous memorials purchased to help fund the church's construction are placed. If you are interested in seeing the inside of the church, call ahead to visit between 9:00 and 3:00, Monday-Thursday or join us for one of our worship services.

In the Heart of the Community
Prince of Peace has a long history of involvement in the community. One of our community partners once said, “your church punches above its weight!” We strive to live into the compliment! Though moderately-sized, our parish is committed to living out the words of Christ by loving and supporting our neighbors.
One of our longest-standing ministries began in 1990 with the establishment of a community soup kitchen in our parish undercroft. Read more about the evolution of the soup kitchen and some of our other outreach ministries here.
